At first I was interested with just seeking nutritional help, but decided to also explore the personal training that was offered. After my first month, I already saw results, and as soon as I realized I was on the right track, I didn’t want to stop. What’s been so great about Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios is that both my personal trainer and my nutritionist have basically been life coaches, setting goals and telling me how to meet them, while still holding me accountable for doing my part. I’ve been set up for success and taught how to keep it. Probably the best part about it is that I’ve enjoyed it the whole way, never feeling like I was “on a diet,” or that I was simply doing things that were “good for me.” It’s become a lifestyle, and I’ve learned that to look fit, you have to live fit, but that you can do that AND enjoy life without making yourself miserable. My body composition has changed, I’ve set new personal records in weightlifting, and I’m eager to keep going down this road. When I started going to Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios for nutrition resources, I was at a very unhealthy point in my life. I had just decided to take action and begin my recovery from anorexia, but I couldn’t do it alone. Through the guidance of my Jim White dietitian, I began to learn the steps to heal my relationship with food, movement, and my body. I discovered intuitive eating, got in touch with my hunger and cravings, and my body began to trust me again. It wasn’t easy and took a lot of work, but I always had the support of my team behind me, so I kept pushing through the bad days and did exactly what my eating disorder told me not to do.
Now that I’ve worked on my relationship with food, I have begun weightlifting again in a safe headspace, which makes me happier than ever. All of which is thanks to the resources I have been given through my dietitian and Jim White. Now, even in my freshman year at college, I can continue to meet with my dietitian virtually to give me the tools I need to be the best, healthiest version of myself.

The Jim White Fitness & Nutrition team kept me going during a really hard time in my life filled with an uneasy medical diagnosis, pain, and surgery. Jim White’s team helped me realize that my diagnosis did not define me, and I could achieve whatever I set my mind to.
There were many days I felt I was swimming upstream, and everything was against me. Yet through it all, my endurance has increased, my muscle mass has increased and my BMI is down.

So when I started on this journey of—I don’t want to call it weight loss, but a life change—I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just knew that I was going through a lot of changes in my life; my dad died, my boyfriend had dumped me, and I was just starting to exercise. And what one of the coaches at the gym told me kept coming back into my head: you can’t out-exercise a bad diet.
So that’s when I knew I had to get my eating on track. Is my journey slow? Yes, but I want to make sure that it sticks. I have discovered so many foods and so many different ways to prepare foods that I never knew existed. My favorite food now is cauliflower; I mean, what can’t you make with it?
So along with learning new foods, I am learning new habits, which are sustaining me and helping me to continue with my journey, one that I am proud of because I am starting to see the results, the results that others see, but I hadn’t been able to see in myself.

I was feeling miserable. My diabetes was out of control, I had a constant headache and was gaining weight. I tried to get back in control on my own but just couldn’t seem to do it.

I have struggled with food and dieting all of my life. I tried every diet out there but with no lasting results. Over the years, I developed bad habits and used food as a source of comfort during stressful times. I never seemed to be able to gain any control, which enhanced feelings of never being able to have a healthy routine or weight loss success.
I decided to seek help and met with my dietitian at Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios. She gave great advice, but I resisted adopting until several years later. She was extremely patient and understanding and I had just about given up when I decided to take her advice and start meal planning.
It took a month to get into the habit, but now it’s in full force. Not only have I lost weight, but more importantly, my relationship with food is the best I’ve had for the first time in my life!
I do not wake up every morning and stress over how fat I think I am or what I can/cannot eat. That has been a life changer! In 2004 I started running in races, going from being a terrible runner to a middle-of-the-pack race walker. I raced all over the country, completing several Ultras, with my longest distance being 50 miles.
In 2018, I learned I have a genetic condition with my feet which made race walking extremely painful. My racewalking days were over. To help with the pain, I went into boots (first one foot, then the other).
When I came out of the boots 6 months later, I had gained weight, lost muscle mass, and no longer had any balance or coordination. HELP!
I decided to try nutrition counseling to help with the weight. Almost 2 years later, and while my journey has been slow, it has been successful. I have lost over 40 pounds and 20 percent of my body fat. I bike, swim, and do strength training on a regular basis.
Jim White Fitness has made me an athlete in my own mind again and I am in better shape at 60 then I ever was when I was racing.

Imagine being fit for the majority of your life, a bodybuilding competitor who lived for health and fitness, and then one day, you find yourself in the morbidly obese category. You don’t recognize yourself anymore. It’s devastating.
I gained 65 pounds with pregnancy and struggled to lose the weight. I struggled with ups and downs for several years, and at one point I had gained a total of 127 pounds. This led to depression and feeling as if I would never get “me” back. I finally learned that pregnancy had triggered PCOS, a disease that affects weight loss. I was told by my doctor that I would never achieve a normal weight, even if I “lived” in the gym. This was discouraging and devastating to hear. Many times I wanted to completely give up.
In 2018 I began working with a former trainer who had helped me be a successful competitor prior to pregnancy. I managed to lose about 30 pounds. I was thrilled, but soon hit a plateau. The discouragement returned. Once again I thought, “This is as good as it gets.” I started gaining weight again! I was terrified that I would balloon up again. But then, one day in June of 2019, I found my missing link. I was referred to JWFNS for nutrition. That was the best decision I had made in a very long time! During the first visit, I felt immediate hope that I could achieve my goal of not only losing the remaining weight, but that I would compete again as a bodybuilder. My dietitian customized a meal plan that took into consideration my health issues and my goals. At JWFNS, they have been supportive, encouraging and motivating. They gave me the map. I have been overweight all my life, even as a child. I was then diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 25, borderline hypertension, and recently diagnosed with borderline high cholesterol. In February 2019, I heard words I never wanted to hear from my doctor. I was told I was a mature adult that was morbidly obese, high blood pressure, cholesterol was high, high glucose numbers—with strong diabetic and heart disease in my family history. I was told all conditions needed to be treated with medication. I asked for time and a referral to a Dietitian. I have been heavy on and off my whole life… Lose 10 pounds, gain 15. Lose 25, gain 55 in three years. I arrived at appointments to see a Dietitian with questions on how to overcome my bad eating habits. Each week I lost pounds, and each time I did the suggestions from the Dietitian, it worked. And such positive goals! At sixteen weeks, my doctor told me the words I worked hard for, “You have dropped 30 pounds, have normal blood pressure and you have dropped cholesterol by 30 points! At this point, you are no longer in need of medication and cleared until next year’s physical exam.” As of December 2019, I have lost 62 pounds! Working with my Dietitian has helped me make positive goals to keep my healthy lifestyle going. My favorite new saying is: “Just Eat Real Food,” otherwise known as clean eating.

I have wanted to make a change for a while, but it was not until my 35th birthday that I came to the realization that if I do not do something now, it is only going to get harder. It’s been almost a year that I’ve been on the nutrition plan, and Jim tailors my plan around my goals. My first goal was to lose some weight. I was able to accomplish that and lower my body fat percentage significantly. My second goal was to run a marathon and get faster at running. I completed my first marathon in October of 2017. I have increased my half marathon Personal Record (PR) by over 5 minutes. I am getting faster all the time. When I first began this journey, I was so sick. My unhealthy habits had gotten so bad that I had horrible acid reflux. I was coughing and throwing up almost every day. I first came to JWFNS because I had gained more weight over the winter than I normally do. Initially I just wanted to fit into my jeans and get ready for summer. It’s been very close to a year since I got serious about changing my body and improving my health with JWFNS. While weight loss was a goal of mine, my major concern was to lower my high blood sugar, high triglycerides, and high cholesterol level. I had been living a sedentary lifestyle for well over a decade, and the weight gain and alarming blood test results were testaments to that couch-potato life. My doctor was concerned and said I needed to change things, especially with my family history of stroke and heart disease. It was after that doctor visit that I made up my mind to indeed “change things.” I knew what needed to change, but how was the question. One thing was for certain, I knew I couldn’t do it on my own; I tried in the past and failed. I knew to truly change things, I had to find a fitness studio that was just as dedicated at seeing me reach my goals as I was. I didn’t want just a membership to some box gym. I needed guidance, instruction and accountability. I met with several small gyms and finally decided on JWFNS. I chose JWFNS because of their one-on-one approach to both nutrition and exercise. It’s the kind of attention I needed and couldn’t find elsewhere. It’s amazing what you can do when you are determined and committed because, almost a year later, I am now 22 pounds lighter, have gained muscle, and have greatly improved my health. My blood sugar is well below the pre-diabetic level, my triglycerides have dropped an astonishing 185 points, and my cholesterol level has decreased by 34 points and no longer considered high. While I haven’t reached my long-range goals, I have definitely met my immediate ones. I feel so much better, and I‘ve noticed a tremendous decrease, if not complete elimination, in the lower back pain I was experiencing almost daily. No longer do I get winded when I climb a few flights of stairs; I feel comfortable again in my clothes; I can jog on the treadmill, not just walk. From childhood into my early forties, I could eat anything and not gain any weight. As a result, I developed poor eating habits. I was a true junk-food junkie. Fast foods and all types of sweets were my favorites. I also ate my share of fried foods and things smothered in sauces and gravies. Things began to change in my forties and I gradually developed a lot of belly fat. By the time I entered my fifties, I suffered from high cholesterol, hypertension and experienced several digestive ailments. I took prescription medication in addition to multiple over-the-counter medications for acid reflux and heartburn on a daily basis. I had joined gyms several times over the years, but I was never motivated enough to be successful. In ten months at JWFNS, I have lost over twenty pounds and four inches from my waist. My energy level and stamina has increased tremendously and I have a healthier body fat percentage. My endurance has increased to a point where I was able to complete two 8K races. Thanks to the combination of the nutritional plan along with exercise, I have a healthier cholesterol level and I no longer need medications for heartburn.

“I hit my mid 40s and working out just wasn’t “working” anymore. I wasn’t overweight, but I was no longer fit. I was, sadly, looking more and more like a frumpy, middleaged mom. I have always been active and fit, but I still struggle with finding the motivation and determination to push myself to achieve the lofty goals I know I am capable of. As a runner for the past 16 years, I have finished many races; some races were personal records (PRs) and some I placed in my age group, but my big dream and goal has been to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I was on track to qualify when I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer and went through seven months of treatment. While I am obviously thankful for my return to good health, ever since I have found myself discouraged trying to regain the speed and strength I once had. With the help of everyone at JWFNS, I recently finished a half-marathon and a full-marathon in record times for me, and I am now in the best physical condition I have ever been in. I have the best trainers and guidance that I need to meet my Boston goal, and I know it’s now only a matter of time before I get there. And I owe all of that to JWFNS!

I’m so glad I came back to JWFNS. In 2010, I joined JWFNS and I knew I needed to lose the weight, but I did not have the right mindset. I ended up quitting before I had any real progress. In 2013, my boyfriend and I moved in with his father to help him due to medical issues. After living with his father for about a year, it clicked. I knew I was very unhealthy, could not live like this anymore, and didn’t want to end up sick and with medical issues myself. In September of 2014, I rejoined JWFNS and I’m so glad I did! With my trainer’s help, I won the JWFNS 90-Day Challenge and am down 60 pounds and counting. Along with the weight loss and new strength, I have also gained speed. I was told at the doctor’s office that as a Health Care Professional I should know better. The realization was complete when I returned home and looked at photos of myself. I decided then to make a change that would affect not only my physical health, but my mental health as well. I had some general goals and a basic image that I wanted to achieve, but no real idea of the lifestyle changes required and the journey I was about to begin.
JWFNS has taught me how to incorporate healthy eating into my everyday life. Learning how to shop and prepare food was just as much of a challenge as the workouts. Having trained with JWFNS almost seven years ago, I already knew that their program really works. HOWEVER! I moved to Norfolk, got married, and I let life get in the way of of being healthy. Being a cop, I found myself drifting towards that stereotypical “donut-eating-overweight-out-of-shape” public servant. I was busting out of my uniform and was uncomfortable in my own body after sitting in a police car for twelve hours. I refused to move up a size in my uniform. I am the type of person who needs a person beside me to motivate me – someone to be accountable to for my eating and exercising. I SWORE if JWFNS ever came to Norfolk I was going back! Along comes December 2014 and the new studio in Norfolk!
In five months I have lost over 20 pounds, 8% body fat and have gone from a size 12 to a size 4! My trainer has been super awesome with all of her knowledge of nutrition and fitness. We laugh now, but the first day I came to train with her and I told her I had leftover Chinese and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for breakfast, I think her eyes almost popped out of her head! But my trainer was NEVER judgmental and always supportive. She always knows when I’m not being pushed enough and out come the heavier weights. I think I can’t do it, but she’s always right. I have learned to pay attention to my body – Garbage in, Garbage out. Gotta eat healthy to BE healthy. Don’t get me wrong, I still eat what I enjoy. I just eat it a lot less!

I came to JWFNS because I was not getting the results I wanted by running alone. I knew that I wanted to be leaner, more muscular and focus more on healthy eating habits, and I wanted to make them all a priority. I was never athletic and was petrified of the idea of working with a trainer and a Dietitian. I read a review online that said “Don’t walk. Run to Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studios.” so I decided to give it a shot. I took it one day at a time, and I stayed for eight months.
I was instantly amazed at how much better I felt eating small, healthy meals frequently throughout the day. The nutrition part was also easy because the nutrition team takes their time and explains food choices and is always available to meet in person or by email or phone. I never felt I was dieting. My Fitness Coach was always sweet, tough, patient, persistent and supportive. In between sessions, she texted me workouts and motivations. She helped me get through Thanksgiving and Christmas without gaining weight.
In eight months at JWFNS, I lost 48 pounds and a whole bunch of bad habits and attitudes. I literally have never felt younger in my life. I never thought of myself as the “fat chick.” I avoided mirrors and photographs and just imagined myself as the athlete that I used to be. I tried to forget that I could barely squeeze into a size 14 anymore. I was just careful about choosing my clothes so that I didn’t need to tuck in shirts, hiding my bulging waistline. In 2007, I had lost weight after running many miles every week. However, since my poor eating habits never changed, when I got bored with running, I quickly gained back all the weight I had lost plus another 10 pounds. After reading all of JWFNS’ success stories, I realized that their program could provide the motivation I needed to make a fresh start. In January 2009, I started their program at my highest weight of 187 pounds.
JWFNS unlocked the secret to healthy eating for me. By making a few tweaks in my food choices and eating five mini-meals per day instead of three large ones, I found that my junk food cravings went away.
As a lifelong “junk food junkie,” I couldn’t believe it when they actually went away! Not that I never eat junk food anymore, it’s just no longer a nightly event. The first 20 pounds seemed to melt away with me losing about two or three pounds per week. In addition to making better food choices, I do cardio three or four times per week and lift weights twice per week. I have lost 25 pounds total and am still working towards losing another 15. More importantly, I am confident that this time I will keep it off.

After five years of inactivity due to a severe injury, I gained a ton of weight and lost all of my strength and stamina to the point of being exhausted just climbing a single flight of stairs. Then I committed to the Get Jim White Fit Accelerated Fitness Program.

But as I dove into my late 30s, I was quickly approaching 300 pounds and feeling more and more terrible and self-conscious every day. I have been a casual runner since college and have always been a pretty healthy eater. Once I hit my mid-40s, the extra pounds are staying on every year and knew that I needed to do something. In 2010, I had a major health scare, two major surgeries, and a “milestone” birthday. Once I got the “O.K.” from my doctor, I decided to start working with a personal trainer. I did a lot of research online, found JWFNS and the rest is history.

“I travel a lot for work.” That has always been my excuse for the 50 extra pounds I put on in the last two years. So while I was in Virginia Beach working for eight months I decided it was time to lose weight. Someone at the diet center I was going to recommended I go see the folks at JWFNS. For the last several years, I found myself gaining 1-2 pounds from eating almost anything I wanted. Meanwhile, with heart disease running in my family, my cholesterol numbers were bad and getting worse.

For years, I considered myself in good shape… I was doing high-level athletics, heavy weight lifting, and regular cardio. But as time went on, and college turned into law school, and law school into a full-time career — good shape turned to decent shape and eventually to the worst shape of my life when I reached 217 pounds.

Growing up as a competitive gymnast, I understood fitness and nutrition from an early age – or so I thought. Three years ago, at age 46 and 188 pounds for my 5’2” frame, having hypertension, elevated cholesterol, depression and at a loss for what to do next, a friend said to me “go to Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios and see if they can help you.” And did they ever! About 6 months ago, I decided that I wanted to get into better shape. In the past, I had always been a very active person who loved to dance, play tennis, and swim. I began to realize that I was losing energy, gaining weight and letting myself go. I knew that I was not going to be able to do this on my own; I needed help, motivation and support. Enter Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios.
The JWFNS team met with me and advised me on healthy eating, portion control and proper training. When I would get frustrated after hitting a plateau, they would change my eating plan so I could continue to reach my goal. I lost 30 pounds and have gained more muscle mass and energy than I had before. My goal is to continue training and get my body into top shape. Guys, thank you for working with me and pushing me to change my life — you guys are the best!

I came to JWFNS because I wanted to be competitive in triathlons and was not able to successfully drop my body fat even though I was working out four days a week and eating what I thought was a pretty “clean” diet. The JWFNS nutrition team provided insight into why my current diet was limiting my success and provided me with eating strategies that fit my lifestyle, were tasty and worked around my food allergy.
My JWFNS fitness coach provided the challenging-but-fun workouts to help drive fat loss while maintaining and building the muscle I needed to successfully compete. In just over six months I lost close to 20 pounds, reduced my body fat by 7 percent, dropped 3 dress sizes and competed in my first sprint triathlon, placing 5th in my age group!
My friends at work and those I have not seen in a while are all so complimentary of the transformation they see in my body and often comment on my arms! I could not be more thrilled with the genuine encouragement and support I have received from the JWFNS team. They are truly a group of professionals that thrive on the success of their clients and care about them as individuals. My fitness goals started with a desire to change how I felt physically and how I felt about myself. I started going to the gym at the recreation center, but with no real goals or plan other than wanting to change.
I met the Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios staff, and they were responsive to the questions I had and receptive to my concerns. I liked the positive attitude I was greeted with when I came in… an attitude that advocated success. I determined that with a little motivation to begin with, personal training was the right approach to give me that “umph” I needed to really get the ball rolling. I came to the studio convinced that there were things I could not do, like running. Guidance and encouragement is what helped me break those barriers and with the JWFNS teamʼs guidance, I become a slimmer and prouder shadow of my former self. I have been given new guidelines for a healthier life, ones that I continually strive to maintain daily.
One year later, 35 pounds lighter, and 2 races finished, I find myself continuing a routine that JWFNS helped me establish and am now a recreational runner. The thing I was once convinced Iʼd never achieve, has been achieved… Iʼm training for my first half-marathon.

As I approached turning 40, I was becoming more and more distressed at my “forty”-year-old stamina and waist line. I am only 5’7″ and had reached a weight of 204 pounds in the spring of 2009. I had also outgrown my size 36 inch waist pants.
In September 2009 I started with Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios with a cholesterol level over 300 and weighing 189 pounds. Jim prescribed me a new diet and exercise plan. I immediately began working out with the JWFNS team two days a week and following the diet plan. In addition, I added two days of cardio conditioning a week on my own.
Nine months later I weigh 162 pounds and wear 31 inch pants! My cholesterol, without the help of medication, is now 152. I continue to enjoy working with the JWFNS team and have now set new goals to rebuild my body as it should be. Without the nutritional consultation and expert workout advice I received I’d still be drinking beer while riding my stationary bike in front of the TV. The entire experience has been a positive one. I feel and look like I am 15 years younger. Thanks guys!

At age 17, I weighed 227 pounds and was gaining weight each month. I had a resting heartbeat of 99 and my blood pressure was not good in any way. I finally decided to see a personal trainer in an effort to improve my health and life. At first, I was so nervous that I skipped my first two consultations and I almost completely gave up on myself, but Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios never gave up on me. They called repeated times until we finally met. I told my coach that I did not think I could even run a mile.
After a hard few months, the results began to show and I started to lose weight. At times, JWFNS gave me that extra boost of encouragement when I had a bad week or two. Nine months later, I had lost over 70 pounds and went from a size 42 pants to a 33. My resting heartbeat is now down to a 66 and my blood pressure has improved drastically. I am now the person that I have always wanted to be. I have kept the weight off and now I run cross-country for my school. I owe it all to the JWFNS staff at Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios. Without their loving support and guidance, I could not have done it.

One word—unbelievable! I have spent the last 20 years at the gym spinning my wheels. It wasn’t until I started training with Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios that I started to see real results. Despite being very athletic, I have always struggled with weight gain. I tried countless diets and worked with personal trainers in the past, but to no avail. I met Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios and started training with them several years ago. Just when I started seeing results, I had an unexpected move to Roanoke, Virginia for a job. Not long after the move, I was soon out of shape and my weight increased to an undesirable level. Once again I found myself dialing up JWFNS begging for help.
I came back to Virginia Beach to meet with JWFNS, who wrote out my fitness and nutrition plan and provided motivation even though we were miles apart. When I began this time around, I weighed 168 pounds, had a 35 inch waist, my body fat was 18 percent. I followed JWFNS’ workout and nutrition plan very closely over a 4 month period. I met with the team at their studio on July 10, 2009 and was very excited to show them the progress I had made.
With JWFNS’s steady guidance, motivation and 4 months of hard work, my weight dropped to 140 pounds, a 29 inch waist, and my body fat had dropped to 8.7 percent! I was once again able to take my shirt off and feel confident in the way I looked, no matter where I was or who was around! Before Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios, I could not even do a single pull-up. In fact, my entire life I have been unable to do a single one. At 37 years young, I reached my peak weight of 293 pounds. I had mild sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and increased doctor visits for anxiety, stress, allergies, and joint pain. My goal was simple — find a personal trainer that was experienced, trained, motivating, committed, and could aide in nutrition. The end result would be an amazing lifestyle change. My goal to be fit would reverse all the health symptoms I had acquired. I would enjoy the greatest reward of all by watching the positive impact this would have on my family.
I had tried many diets and failed. I had tried personal training at other gyms and failed. Prior to visiting Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios, I had researched over 15 local gyms in the area and realized they were all missing something.
My partnership with JWFNS started with an overhaul of our kitchen pantry. Then it was off to the grocery store to learn how to shop and eat healthy for the whole family. The blueprint was laid out for three days of strength training and 6 days of cardio for 45 minutes or more. I was given guidance on food choices at every session. By learning what foods stimulates your metabolism and keeps it at peak levels is the key to a lifestyle change. During my training I never once saw myself on a diet. I was eating more often in healthier portions and choices. I was very motivated not to fail and committed myself to succeed. It required me to put my health first and make time in the day to get fit. I reached 214 pounds in less than 9 months. All my previous health issues are gone. I am proud to say I am Jim White FIT!

My journey with the Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios began in Spring of 2011. I was inspired by the JWFNS coaches’ lifestyle of practicing what they preach — they were dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle, maintaining a super clean diet and completing a daily exercise routine.
Ever since college, I had a problem abusing alcohol on the weekends. My JWFNS coach encouraged me to give up that vice, as it was holding me back from reaching my fitness goals. He helped me to get into the best shape of my life the summer of 2011. Unfortunately, that Fall, I suffered injuries that inhibited me from exercising consistently for a full year. But in 2013, JWFNS helped me get back to where I was before my injury and I’ve reached new heights of physical fitness. The nutrition plan, combined with training and ongoing encouragement, is a sure-fire way to accomplish whatever fitness goals you have.
