Selecting Matcha
– Your matcha should be bright green. The poor quality matcha is more brown or yellow in color.
– Be sure to select ceremonial grade – it’s better quality than culinary grade.
– Matcha tea can range from $30-$50. It’s better to purchase the good stuff and reap the benefits than try to save a few bucks and buy the cheap, lower-quality stuff.
– Look for Matcha directly from Japan. Matcha originated from Japan, so they have had a longer time to perfect the growing, harvesting, processing and packaging process.
How to Prepare
While matcha can be used in many different methods, a more traditional way of preparing would be to sift 1-2 teaspoons of matcha into a small bowl then pour in to very hot water. (not boiling water, though – that can destroy the antioxidants). Using a bamboo whisk, whisk vigorously until the tea becomes frothy and sip. You could also chose to add to your favorite recipes to give them a nutritious boost! Add a teaspoon of matcha tea to your favorite yogurt or mix into your favorite fruit smoothie.
